Neighbors, artists, and friends at work.

Everything at Buchanan Arts starts with people — the teachers who guide, the volunteers who show up, the partners who believe in what we do, and the community that fills the space with creativity. Each person plays a part in shaping what Buchanan Arts becomes next.

Our Teaching Artists

Our teaching artists are practicing professionals who share their craft with students of all ages and experience levels. They’re the heart of our programs — bringing skill, patience, and passion to every class.

Rebecca Blevins

Rebecca Blevins grew up in Appalachia playing on the clay banks of Watauga Lake in East Tennessee. She has taught ceramics in various studio settings as an adjunct professor, community educator, and private instructor for over 10 years. The artist is currently working out of her studio in the woods in Ashland City, TN where she continues to pursue experimentation of form using both hand building and wheel throwing techniques. She has also started digging clay and gathering local raw materials with the hope to incorporate a more trial and error approach to her practice. She is equal parts teacher, potter, sculptor, and experimenter. In her studio it is not uncommon to find a perfectly thrown vessel next to a silly animal form or a lumpy cup. All are welcome.

Cesear Pita

Born in Los Angeles and raised in the South, Cesar Pita maintains a productive studio practice in which he creates a mix of wheel thrown and sculptural ceramic work. This work revolves around cultural exploration, family history, and advocacy for his community. Finding a historical link between his family and clay is a key point that has led to a more intentional way of making. As a first generation college graduate, Cesar received a BFA from Middle Tennessee State University. He has gone on to assist multiple artists in Nashville while also working as an art handler.

Heather Hill

Heather Hill is from Little Rock, Arkansas and has been enjoying clay for over ten years. She works out of her home studio in Goodlettsville and has taught youth and adult pottery classes at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. The functionality of clay is what drives her and sharing that joy as she teaches is her passion. “Encouraging Kindergarten teacher” is her vibe and patience is her virtue.

Ash Atterberry

Ash Atterberry is originally from the flat lands of central Illinois and received a BFA in Ceramics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She then moved on to complete a Post-Baccalaureate program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville which led her to Washington, California and currently Nashville, TN.

Together, we’re building something lasting, an art community rooted in creativity, connection, and care.
